Electronic Rules Training and Testing ("ERTT")

1. Who can use ERTT?

  • At RISK EMPLOYEES and Engineers with 850 or less EQMS scores are excluded from ERTT. Recertifying Locomotive Engineers can use the ERTT for training but must have a proctor for the exam.

  • All other TE&Y employees may use the ERTT process.

2. Are there any time limits to ERTT?

  • There is no time limit to the training process.

  • The practice exams have no time limit or attempt limits.

  • The biannual or recert exams do not have time limits but do have attempt limits.

3. Can I start the exam and quit then pick up where I left off on the previous exam?

  • No, the exam is randomized on each attempt.

  • The employee may only submit one exam. You CANNOT SUBMIT a second test attempt without an administrative override being issued first. If you have submitted a test effort once, you must contact your manager before attempting to take the test again.

NOTE: If you attempt to take the test a second time, without a formal "reset" by the system administrator, you will waste your time and the company resources. The system will allow you to access the test and answer the questions BUT IT WILL NOT ACCEPT THE SECOND SUBMISSION when you press the SUBMIT button.

4. What is the pay for my taking the exam?

  • The employee is paid a basic day after the completion of the exam with a score above 84%.

  • When an employee completes a test and clicks on the SUBMIT button, the test is immediately scored and the results are captured by the system administrator and simultaneously sends it immediately to timekeeping for payment.

5. What happens if I do not pass the exam?

  • The employee must contact an MOP within 24 hrs of the exam. Failure to do this may be grounds for a discipline action.

  • The employee then must complete a face to face rules class.

  • The employee only receives one basic day regardless of the number of attempts to pass the exam. The employee is withheld from service if they fail the face to face class.

6. What is my user ID and password for the training area?

  • The employee's personal ID number is the user ID for all areas of training and testing. If there are leading zeros in the ID they must NOT be used. (Example: 0029715 must be entered as 29715).

  • The password for the training section is the last four numbers of the employee's social security number. In this case all leading zeros must be entered. (231-32-0087 would be 0087 in the system).

7. What is my user ID and password for the testing area?

  • The employee's personal ID number is the user ID for all areas of training and testing. If there are leading zeros in the ID they must NOT be used. (Example: 0099999 must be entered as 99999).

  • The password for the Biennial Test and / or the Engineer's Recertification Test must be obtained from the Manager of Training and Testing. He or she will verify your eligibility and issue a current and valid password to each individual.

8. What do the labor organizations think of ERTT?
